01 The bottom line
PrizePicks is the biggest pick'em daily fantasy app in the country, and it is not a sportsbook. You do not bet a book's line. You pick more or less on player stat projections, combine 2 to 6 of them, and get paid a fixed multiplier if you hit. Since 2025 every real-money entry runs through a peer-to-peer format, so your entry fee goes into a pool against other players instead of against the house.
The projection board is the deepest in the category, withdrawals are fast, and the app is clean. The trade-off is the same one every pick'em app carries: the multipliers pay less than true parlay odds, and that gap is how the platform makes money. Know that going in and PrizePicks is the default app for player props.
02 Is PrizePicks legit?
Yes, with a regulatory scar worth knowing about. PrizePicks is headquartered in Atlanta and runs official partnerships with the Falcons and the Braves. It is a real company paying real winners at scale.
The New York story. PrizePicks operated in New York without a license from June 2019 through December 2023. When the state's Gaming Commission ruled that player-vs-house pick'em contests were unlicensed sports bets, PrizePicks pulled out and agreed to a settlement of just under $15 million ($14,969,688), due by March 2024. It later won an interactive fantasy sports license and returned to New York in late 2025, running only the peer-to-peer format there.
What that forced. Regulators in several states pushed the same argument, and PrizePicks answered by moving all real-money contests to peer-to-peer in 2025. Prizes now come from pooled entry fees. The play experience barely changed, but the legal footing did, and that is why PrizePicks still operates in states where house-style pick'em got banned.
Real complaints. The welcome offer only pays if your first entry wins, bonus lineups expire in 7 days and have no cash value, and the payout multipliers run below true odds. None of that is a scam. All of it is fine print you should read.
03 Bonuses & promotions
The headline offer through promo links is Play $5, Get $150 in bonus lineups. The catch matters: your first lineup must be a real-money Power Play of at least $5, and the $150 in bonus lineups only lands if that lineup wins. Miss it and you get nothing extra.
A win-contingent bonus is a coin-flip amplifier, not free money. It is still worth taking, just size your first entry knowing half the time the bonus never shows up.
04 What you can play
Two entry types. Power Play is all or nothing: 2 picks pay 3x, 3 pay 6x, 4 pay 10x, 5 pay 20x, 6 pay 37.5x. Flex Play trades ceiling for forgiveness: a 6-pick Flex pays 25x for a sweep, 2x if you go 5 of 6, and 0.4x at 4 of 6. A 5-pick Flex pays 10x, a 4-pick pays 6x, a 3-pick pays 3x, each with partial payouts one miss down.
Demon and Goblin projections skew individual lines harder or easier and change the multiplier, with advertised max payouts up to 2,000x on Demon-loaded entries. Those are lottery tickets. Treat them that way.
The sport board is the widest in pick'em: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, college football, PGA, MMA, NASCAR, soccer, tennis, and a deep esports lineup. During football season the NFL prop board alone is bigger than what some sportsbooks hang.
05 State availability
PrizePicks operates in roughly 45 states in some form, though the exact contest type varies by jurisdiction. It is not available in the usual DFS holdout states: reports list Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, and Washington among the exclusions, and a few others carry partial restrictions. New York is back on the board as of late 2025 under the peer-to-peer format.
The app geolocates you at signup and tells you exactly what you can play. If you live in a restricted state, no promo code changes that.
06 Payouts & trust
This is where PrizePicks earns its rating. The withdrawal minimum is $10, PayPal withdrawals land within minutes in most reports, and ACH bank transfers take a couple of days. No horror stories at scale, and the volume this app handles is enormous.
